„Bevor ich hierhergezogen bin, habe ich noch einmal all meine Freundinnen angerufen. Ich habe mich verabschiedet und ihnen ein schönes Leben gewünscht. Das ist ein neuer Abschnitt, und das Alte hat damit nichts mehr zu tun.“ So beginnt die Geschichte einer Bewohnerin, die einen radikalen Bruch erlebt und all das Vertraute hinter sich lässt. Es ist der letzte Umzug, der oft aus der Not heraus geschieht, weil es keine Alternativen mehr gibt. Für viele markiert dieser Lebensabschnitt das Ende der Selbstbestimmung, während andere die Chance sehen, in einer neuen Gemeinschaft aufzublühen.
Leni Plöchl gewährt mit Pflegestufe 4 einen einfühlsamen Blick auf das Leben im Senior*innenheim. Das veraltete Prinzip „warm, satt, sauber“ bleibt ein ständiger Begleiter – ein Versuch, Grundbedürfnisse zu erfüllen, aber auch ein Abbild eines Systems, das sich auf das Nötigste beschränkt. Das Stück thematisiert die Spannung zwischen Fürsorge und Funktionalität, Menschlichkeit und Management. Es erzählt von leisen Abschieden, stillen Kämpfen und unerwarteten Momenten des Aufblühens.
Für viele ist der Umzug in ein Pflegeheim ein einschneidender Schritt, und das Warten wird oft zum ständigen Begleiter – auf Besuch, auf das nächste Essen, auf die Nacht. Neben den Bewohner* innen beleuchtet Plöchl auch das Personal: Wie bleibt man Mensch, wenn der Alltag zwischen Pflege- und Dienstplänen zermahlen wird? Was passiert, wenn Roboter die Aufgaben übernehmen?
Pflegestufe 4 zeigt, wie die Bewohner*innen sich in ihrem letzten Wohnort einrichten – ein Ort, der für einige eine Endstation und für andere einen Neubeginn darstellt. Es stellt die Frage, wie wir mit der letzten Lebensphase umgehen und ob es gelingt, das „Zuhause“ im „Heim“ zu bewahren. Was bleibt, wenn Routine den Tag bestimmt? Was bleibt, wenn das Licht ausgeht?
Leni Plöchl studierte Clownerie und Schauspiel an der École Philippe Gaulier in Paris. Sie schloss ihr Masterstudium „expanded theater“ an der Hochschule der Künste Bern ab. Leni fokussiert sich auf Dokumentarfilme, Clownerie, Psychoanalyse und immersive Theaterstücke. Aktuell tourt sie mit ihren Solostücken „LUX II“ und „Da war ich nicht mehr da“. Zu ihren Projekten gehören „Wo man singt, da lass dich nieder“ (Dokumentarfilm, Österreich-Israel, 2017), „KlinIkon“ (Künstlerhaus Wien, 2018) und „Wer will mich – Ein Herz für Künstler“ (Künstlerhaus Wien, 2019). Leni Plöchl erhielt den STELLA-Darstellender.Kunst.Preis 2019 und den Stadt der Vielfalt Preis. Sie lebt in Wien.
“Before I moved here, I called all my friends again. I said goodbye and wished them a good life. This is a new chapter and the old has nothing to do with it anymore.” So begins the story of a resident who experiences a radical break and leaves everything familiar behind. It is the last move, which is often made out of necessity because there are no more alternatives. For many, this stage of life marks the end of self-determination, while others see the opportunity to flourish in a new community.
Leni Plöchl provides an empathetic view of life in a retirement home with Care Level 4. The outdated principle of “warm, full, clean” remains a constant companion – an attempt to fulfill basic needs, but also a reflection of a system that limits itself to the bare essentials. The play addresses the tension between care and functionality, humanity and management. It tells of quiet farewells, silent struggles and unexpected moments of blossoming.
For many, moving into a care home is a drastic step, and waiting often becomes a constant companion – for visitors, for the next meal, for the night. In addition to the residents, Plöchl also sheds light on the staff: how do you stay human when everyday life is crushed between care and duty schedules? What happens when robots take over?
Care Level 4 shows how residents settle into their last place of residence – a place that represents a final destination for some and a new beginning for others. It poses the question of how we deal with the last phase of life and whether we succeed in preserving the “home” in the “home”. What remains when routine rules the day? What remains when the light goes out?
Leni Plöchl studied clowning and acting at the École Philippe Gaulier in Paris. She completed her master’s degree in “expanded theater” at the Bern University of the Arts. Leni focuses on documentary films, clowning, psychoanalysis and immersive theater pieces. She is currently touring with her solo pieces “LUX II” and “Da war ich nicht mehr da”. Her projects include “Wo man singt, da lass dich nieder” (documentary film, Austria-Israel, 2017), “KlinIkon” (Künstlerhaus Wien, 2018) and “Wer will mich – Ein Herz für Künstler” (Künstlerhaus Wien, 2019).
